Senior Product Manager
About Directus
Directus is the collaborative backend for applications and AI. We provide an open data platform that enables teams to model, manage, and deliver trusted data across projects and systems — with full governance, flexibility, and developer control.
Thousands of organizations use Directus to power digital products, internal tools, and AI-ready data workflows.
Role Overview
We're hiring a Product Manager to own and improve how developers and content teams discover, understand, and adopt Directus.
This is a versatile role with a clear through-line: great developer experience. You'll pick up product work wherever the need is greatest - owning our documentation platforms, shaping our APIs and SDKs, improving the Studio experience and driving better onboarding. We're a small team, so this comes with broad ownership and lean responsibilities - less process, more getting things done.
The role sits in Product, close to the engineering teams shipping features and close to the Directus community, whose questions and workarounds are often the clearest signal of where the product falls short.
What You'll Do
Own Product Experience Across Key Areas
Drive improvements across onboarding, Cloud dashboard, licensing and account management tooling, and the Studio experience
Identify friction points in how customers adopt, manage, and scale their use of Directus
Collaborate with engineering and design to spec, prioritize, and ship improvements across these surfaces
Contribute to Platform and API Experience
Work with engineering leads on projects where developer experience is core: deployment flows, authentication, APIs, SDKs, and CLIs
Help translate product needs into clear technical plans, and iterate based on real user feedback
Be the point of contact for documentation platforms - ensuring docs standards are maintained, content is high-quality and features ship with adequate documentation
Be the Voice of the Community and Customer
Surface pain points from Discourse, GitHub issues, Discord, and customer conversations back into Product
Own the product feedback process - triaging, scoring, and using it to inform prioritization
Engage directly with customers and community; translate that feedback into clear, actionable items
Support Planning and Execution
Help define what's in and out of upcoming engineering cycles
Default to writing things down: proposals, decisions, and findings documented
What We're Looking For
Experience in a product management, developer relations, or sales engineering role - ideally at a developer tools, data platform, or infrastructure company
Comfortable working as a product-minded owner: defining problems, setting priorities, driving outcomes
Technical enough to collaborate deeply with engineers, sanity-check examples, and understand API and SDK design tradeoffs
Strong written communicator - defaults to writing things down
Familiar with the developer experience of building on top of APIs, databases, or infrastructure-adjacent products
Self-directed and comfortable with ambiguity in a small, high-ownership team
Nice to Have
Hands-on experience with databases, APIs, or deployment and infrastructure tooling
Familiarity with open-source communities and how to engage and support them effectively
Experience with AI-assisted content workflows (generation, maintenance, keeping docs in sync)
Prior involvement in information architecture, developer onboarding, or SDK/CLI design
What We Offer
High-impact work on a widely used, developer-focused product used by teams running in production
A remote-first environment with flexible working hours
A small, high-ownership team where you can influence product direction from day one
Competitive compensation and equity participation
Application Process
Our process is straightforward and focused on real signal:
[30 min] Intro + role and team context + initial fit conversation
[60 min] Case Study with hiring manager and cross-functional leads
[~30 min] Final conversation to cover open questions and ensure mutual fit
